South West Regional Pub and Club of the Year 2026
The Fallen Tree Micropub and Backwell Village Club both win in the next stage of the competition.
Bristol & District CAMRA recently awarded the branch’s coveted pub and club of the year awards to the Fallen Tree Micropub in Clevedon and to the Backwell Village Club in – you guessed it – Backwell, respectively. Both have now gone on to be crowned South West regional winners, an area running from South Gloucestershire down to, and including, Cornwall. A fantastic achievement!
Both winners will now go forward for further rounds of judging over the coming months to determine CAMRA’s national pub and club of the year. Good luck to both!

Judges were impressed by the service, welcome and general friendliness of the pub, the excellent condition of the cask ales on offer and the many fundraising activities for charities.
Co-owner and landlord Pete Dommett and his wife Kate, who have run the pub for around six years, were delighted to hear the news of the award. Pete said, “To win the Bristol & District pub of the year award was amazing; to win pub of the year for the whole of the South West region is ridiculous! We have the best staff, and to be recognized for serving really good beer – especially during this really hot summer – means a lot to me.”
A presentation event was held on Thursday, 27th August with a substantial number of people attending, both locals and members of the Bristol & District CAMRA branch.

Judges praised the Club for its convivial and hospitable welcome and commented on how well the real ales were kept. Members are invited to suggest which beers are served, and the range changes regularly. The Club welcomed the news with delight, saying, “Once again we are recognised for many things, including the range and quality of our beer, the atmosphere and the environment. We would not have received this award without the commitment and contribution of all members of our staff team.”
A presentation was held on Saturday, 22nd August with a great turnout. Seven cask ales were on offer including three dark beers – two stouts and a porter.
