Good Beer Guide
The Good Beer Guide 2027 is set to be published on Thursday 24th September.
There will be a local launch on Friday 25th September in a Bristol pub (to be announced soon) where you’ll be able to buy a copy for a discounted price.
About the 2027 edition
The CAMRA Good Beer Guide is the definitive guidebook to good pubs that serve real ale across the UK. Refreshed and updated for its 54th edition, it is fully revised and features over 4,500 recommended pubs across the United Kingdom that serve the best real ale and the facilities available at each venue.
The guide also features a unique brewery listing covering 1,700 breweries and 5,000 beers plus information about on-site brewery taprooms to help you track down the freshest possible pints right at the source. The Good Beer Guide is completely independent, with listings based entirely on evaluation by CAMRA members.
This year’s foreword is written by Sir Ian Rankin. He, and his fictional detective Rebus, both frequent the Oxford Bar in Edinburgh which features on the cover of this year’s guide.
The selection process
The process for selecting pubs for inclusion in CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide (GBG) is a continual one and we need members from across the region to help us gather information about the beer quality in them, preferably by rating (scoring) their beers.
Beer scores recorded on CAMRA’s national database – via the CAMRA website at camra.org.uk/pubs – are used to compile a shortlist of pubs eligible for consideration, and we need more beer scores for more pubs, particularly those in suburban and rural areas of the branch.
In order to help members with this, Bristol & District runs occasional minibus trips to pubs in areas of the branch that are difficult to access by public transport. Many of these more remote pubs receive fewer beer scores than pubs in more populated areas – so we rely on these trips and your scores to help us decide which could be GBG contenders.
We also arrange pub walks and trips using public transport to areas closer to the centre of Bristol.
So take a look at the branch diary to see what is currently arranged over the next few months, and come along if you can. As well as assessing beer quality, these events are a great way of socialising and visiting pubs you may not otherwise get to.
Equally, if you are drinking in your local or elsewhere in the country it would be helpful if you could remember to score beers you drink.
